EMDR Therapy – Have you experienced the trauma of childhood abuse or neglect? Perhaps you've lived through a traumatic loss or witnessed a traumatic event such as a car accident, natural disaster or unexpected death of a loved one? If so, you might be helped by Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. It is a specific type of therapy that has been shown to be effective for a number of different issues, specifically trauma issues. When a person has undergone psychological trauma, such as sexual or physical abuse, the trauma is stored in the body as physical sensations (touch, sight, sound, taste, smell). Because the body has no way to process these sensations, the actual memories of the trauma can sometimes get stuck in the brain as intrusive thoughts and images. Unfortunately, because those memories are stuck it is difficult to get rid of them. People who have been exposed to trauma often carry the memories around for long periods of time, developing different methods to try to cope with them. EMDR therapy works to unstick the memories so that a person can move on with his or her life. If you think that you might be helped by EMDR therapy, call 603-577-5551 or send an email to info@apeacefulbalance.com For more specific information about EMDR, go to our EMDR page.
